South Byfield Cemetery

Small. Intimate. Quiet. Peaceful. Community. These are just some of the words that have been used to describe the South Byfield Cemetery.

Founded in 1856, South Byfield Cemetery has a great history. Among a host of notable individuals and families, some acclaimed people with gravestones here include John Odgen and Judge William Moody. We are also very proud of the fact that 368 veterans rest here today. But the history we are most proud of is the generations of local families who reside here.

This is a unique place for many reasons, primarily due to the fact that this is a private cemetery. In essence South Byfield is “for the community, run by the community.” Unlike a municipal property, this is a place and a community that prides itself on being responsive, attentive, and caring. All of those who oversee the cemetery, call this home, and will be residing here eternally.

The grounds are comprised of 14 acres situated in picturesque Georgetown, Massachusetts. Tucked away in a rural part of the North Shore, it’s meticulously maintained and a beautiful spot for loved ones to pay their respects in a peaceful environment. We hope you’ll come by some day and visit the grounds.

Who can be buried here?

As a private cemetery, many ask “Who can be buried here?”

This is a local cemetery committed to local people who are seeking a final resting place. Residents of Byfield and Georgetown, and those within a 6-mile radius are invited to secure a burial plot here. In addition, immediate relatives (i.e., children) of those already calling this their eternal home may purchase a plot.

South Byfield Cemetery is a community that genuinely cares about its generations of family members. While we are private, our mission is to support and serve local families with great compassion and care.
